Adaptive Reuse of Motel Provides a Place of Respite and Support
gbA designed this facility for Good Samaritan Haven’s Emergency Shelter Program which provides for the immediate basic needs of their guests as well as broader support services. This project involved new construction in addition to adaptive reuse of the former Twin City Motel to create an emergency shelter providing 18 rooms with 35 beds, including a community kitchen, gathering spaces, and laundry areas. The house at the back of the property was renovated and serves as a welcome center with a larger kitchen for providing meals, and meeting spaces and offices that support case management services that help guests navigate and procure employment, benefits, necessary care, and stable housing.
