University of Vermont Athletics Master Plan
A Plan for a State of the Art Sports Complex
After completing a careful analysis of the University of Vermont’s athletic facilities, gbA created a master plan outlining both immediate and long term projects to meet the University’s needs and goals. Upgrades and renovations to the existing athletic campus will make it a state of the art sports complex, giving it a new sense of place, presence, and physical form. All improvements will sensitively address spatial and physical connections to existing parking areas, residential areas, athletic facilities, and the surrounding larger campus. Particular emphasis will be given to coordinating with the Campus Master Plan and also to reestablishing a strong physical framework to the UVM campus as a whole.
The new master plan includes a compete upgrade of the athletic facilities, a student athlete success center, new artificial turf fields, lighting, a press box, an air supported winter roof, an urban pedestrian walk, locker and storage facilities, and an Events Plaza. The Events Plaza is envisioned as the busy central hub of a true athletic complex, an intersection of visitors, game day athletes, athletes in training, and students. The new Stadium Field, the primary playing arena, will be sunken below grade, significantly reducing sound and noise impacts upon surrounding dorms and residential areas. A new administrative building will also house a box office. Other additions to the athletic campus consist of a new track, 6-8 tennis courts, several natural grass recreational fields, and a variety of landscape elements intended to support pedestrian connections to exterior spaces surrounding the Gutterson/Patrick Gymnasium.
Centennial Field, a satellite athletic campus, will receive a new softball facility, complete with lockers, offices, and team rooms, and the existing interior facility will receive a complete renovation.
