The new VSECU Credit Union in Rutland Vermont will be the first LEED Gold rated banking institution in the State of Vermont.

The project goals were to create a branch credit union that is warm and inviting to VSECU members and the community while striving for the lowest possible energy consumption.

Much attention was paid to creating a community connection and utilizing local resources. The design included a community room and over 1/3 of the materials were harvested and manufactured within 500 miles of Rutland and include Carrara Concrete, Redland Brick, Bethel Granite, Poultney and Castleton Slate and Vermont Maple for finish woodwork. 11% of the materials contain recycled products and the material used for the counter tops contained shredded U.S. currency that has been retired. All sealants, paints, flooring and composite wood has been certified by a 3rd party to be low VOC.

The total energy performance was reduced by 39%, water use was reduced by 35% and 66% of the construction waste was diverted from the Landfill.
