Vermont Foodbank Barre, VT

The Vermont Foodbank is a 24,000 sf facility with 6,300 sf of office/ kitchen space and 17,300 s.f. of high bay warehouse.

A predominately pre-engineered building, the interior and exterior areas provide common space throughout for employee interaction.

Much attention was paid to providing daylight to all spaces including the warehouse area where it can significantly reduce the energy load. The exterior of the building is distinguished by an herb and fruit garden with space for future crops, consistent with the Foodbank’s Mission. Systems include a highly insulated metal panel system for the warehouse, fiber cement clapboards for the reception wing, thermally improved roof insulation system, and fiberglass windows with high performance glazing.

The interior continues the industrial aesthetic with exposed ceiling structure, exposed finished concrete block, gypsum board, fiberglass sheathing, stained concrete floors, and a vibrant color scheme. Material choices were based on environmental impact, maintenance, cost, and appearance.
