Laraway Youth and Family Services Expansion Project Johnson, Vermont

Laraway Youth and Family Services (Laraway) provides alternative education, therapeutic foster care, and public school-based services for at-risk youth and their families through three distinctive programs: Laraway School, Substitute Care, and Backpack. They primarily serve children and youth from Lamoille County, providing crucial educational, mental health and crisis services to a rural area. Demand for their highly specialized services also prompts placements from across Vermont.

The Laraway expansion project includes: an expansion of the existing barn to include a large gathering space, small meeting rooms, hoteling stations and youth and indoor recreation use. The expansion also includes new large glazed areas to the south to celebrate the agrarian views and a new access stair and entry. Design work included masterplanning the entire 38 acre site to designate areas for future expansions and parking.
