Ilsley Public Library

gbA worked with the Town of Middlebury to determine the feasibility of renovating and expanding the Ilsley Public Library, and to design the potential new space. This project involved an in depth study of the existing building, which has already undergone two separate expansions. As the original portion of the structure is of historical importance, a study of preservation requirements was also undertaken.

Once the studio had undertaken these studies, we were able to create multiple potential design directions for the space. These potential designs were refined and focused through meetings with library Board members, staff, town officials, and community members, resulting in a final direction that would allow us to highlight the historical building, while also constructing an addition that would allow for additional collection and community spaces, as well as a flexible and modernized layout.
