Ilsley Public Library

gbA is working with the Town of Middlebury to determine the feasibility of renovating and expanding the Ilsley Public Library, and to design the potential new space. This project involves an in depth study of the existing building, which has already undergone two separate expansions. As the original portion of the structure is of historical importance, a study of preservation requirements was also undertaken.

Once the studio has undertaken these studies, we are able to create multiple potential design directions for the space. These potential designs are refined and focused through meetings with library Board members, staff, town officials, and community members, resulting in a final direction that will allow us to highlight the historical building, while also constructing an addition that will allow for additional collection and community spaces, as well as a flexible and modernized layout.
