Anglo American School of Sofia Sofia, Bulgaria

  • 2018—Outstanding Design Award for a Combined Level School by American School and University

The Anglo American School of Sofia is a K-12 international school located in Sofia, Bulgaria. This international school has been serving students and the greater expatriate community in Sofia since 1967. In 2006, the school moved to its current, ideal, location, in the neighborhood of Pancharevo with views of Mt. Vitosha. In 2017, the school purchased additional land to expand its existing campus, and a ten year Masterplan was created in collaboration with gbA Architecture & Planning to reflect the school’s mission, core values, and goal of continued growth.

The Performing and Visual Arts Center is the first project from the 2017 master plan to be built. This 55,000 sq. ft. state of the arts facility opened in June 2019 and will be fully occupied this August when school begins. The project includes a state of the art 350 seat main stage theater, a 100 seat black box theater, theater support spaces, choir space, band and practice rooms, visual arts classrooms, an innovative maker space, and marketing and communication offices. The project is on track to receive LEED Gold by the USGBC and be of the highest standards for eco-friendly buildings.
