Co-op Plaza Redevelopment honored with AIAVT Design Excellence Award

The Co-op Plaza Redevelopment has been honored with a 2015 AIAVT Design Excellence Award. The award was presented on December 10, 2015 at the Middlebury Inn. The judges commented “The materials, colors and composition of the facade acknowledge the existing context and break down the scale of the new intervention. Its a modest project to remediate an urban condition, the urban gesture is subtle and effective”. This is the projects third award after receiving the national EPA Smart Growth Award and AIA/HUD Secretary’s National Award for Creating Community Connection.

The project is a unique private-public partnership between the Brattleboro Food Co-op, Housing Vermont and Windsor Windham Housing Trust in the revitalization of a key edge of downtown Brattleboro. The building is a model of energy efficiency utilizing both conventional and innovative systems. The Main Street location provides healthy food, new jobs, and housing within walkable distances of downtown businesses and public transit.
