Co-op Plaza Redevelopment wins National Award
The Co-op Plaza Redevelopment has been honored with 2015 AIA/HUD Secretary’s Housing and Community Design Award for Creating Community Connection. The award was presented on May 15, 2015 at the AIA National Convention and Design Expo. One of only two awards presented this year, this national award recognizes excellence in design for projects that incorporate housing with other community amenities for the purpose of revitalization or planned growth. This is the second national award for the project having received the 2013 EPA Award for Smart Growth.
The project is a unique private-public partnership between the Brattleboro Food Co-op, Housing Vermont and Windsor Windham Housing Trust in the revitalization of a key edge of downtown Brattleboro. The building is a model of energy efficiency utilizing both conventional and innovative systems. The Main Street location provides healthy food, new jobs, and housing within walkable distances of downtown businesses and public transit.
